Answers to Common Questions About Your Care

At the Gastroenterology and Advanced Metabolic Institute of Texas, we want every patient to feel informed, confident, and supported. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive.
Do I need a referral to make an appointment?
While many patients come through referrals, you do not need one to schedule directly with us. However, some insurance plans may require it—please check with your provider.
What conditions do you treat in gastroenterology?
We treat a full range of digestive issues, including acid reflux, IBS, IBD (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), liver disease, and colon cancer screening, among others.
When should I get a colonoscopy?
We recommend starting screening at age 45, or earlier if you have a family history of colorectal cancer or related symptoms.
Is capsule endoscopy painful?
Not at all. It’s a non-invasive procedure where you swallow a small camera capsule. It passes naturally and requires no sedation or recovery time.
What kinds of hormone or metabolic disorders do you treat?
Our endocrinology services include care for thyroid disorders, diabetes, adrenal and pituitary conditions, PCOS, osteoporosis, and hormone imbalances affecting metabolism and weight.
What is a FibroScan?
FibroScan is a quick, non-invasive test that checks for liver stiffness and fat. It’s used to detect early signs of liver damage without a biopsy.
Do you offer medical weight loss support?
Yes. Our weight loss programs combine medical evaluation, prescription options (if needed), and nutritional counseling tailored to your goals and metabolic health.
Do you accept my insurance?
We accept most major insurance plans. Please contact our office to verify coverage and discuss your benefits before your visit.
Will I get a bill after my visit?
Depending on your insurance and services received, you may receive a bill for deductibles or co-pays. Our billing team is happy to answer any questions.
